New Appointments!
Well quite a bit has happened. Last week as most of you probably saw I had my 2nd laser/dilation and change of trach. They increased my trach from a size 5 to a size 6 and boy could I feel the difference from all the extra air! I have attached pictures from surgery. I was opened from being completely closed to 1cm. More open than I have been in a very long time! Right away when I was discharged she already had my next surgery scheduled for July 7th. She scheduled it so soon because she didn’t want it to close completely again as it makes it much harder to open back up. They were all so amazing at the U! I would recommend them to anyone! So, while I was there, I actually had to go to surgery twice because the first day they tried to do the surgery I bled too much so she wasn’t able to do it. She called in another surgeon to come in for the next day to help and it worked!
When I had my video conference with her after surgery I asked about the tracheal resection. She said she is setting me up with an appointment with the gastric people because I need to loose about 100lbs to have this surgery, and I will need it. Today I had to drive across the boarder and have this video appointment. It went great, they looked at my history and saw all that had happened and said that I am definitely a candidate for the “sleeve” gastrostemy. This is a process. I have to see the surgeon, a dietician several times, I have to be cleared by my primary provider, by my pulmonologist, by my endocrinologist, by a cardiologist (because I had a heart attack when I was on the vent) and I need to see a psychologist. The dietician I need to see 3 to 6 times before surgery we just need to ask insurance how many times they require.
Now, Sunday I have to go to Minneapolis to get my Covid test done so I can have my surgery on Tuesday July 7th. I need to loose 10lbs before I have the gastric surgery and I’m taking a guess that Dr. Gray will want to do another laser/dilation surgery soon, like maybe another 2 weeks to keep me open.
Thank you all so much for all of your kind words, thoughts and prayers this has definitely been a journey. I hope to one day be a motivational speaker. I feel like everything happens for a reason and God knew I could handle this and knew I could help people. I am a determined person that won’t give up, I’ve already proved that, now it’s just time to get my life back so I can help others! It’s been amazing to be able to talk again. I have surprised some people who don’t go on Facebook that have stopped to say hi outside! That’s been fun also to surprise people! Please say a prayer that I am able to have the gastric surgery in 3 months rather than 6! I know the power of prayer works! The pictures on here are from my last hospital stay! One shows a ruler that shows mm and cm. The last time I had a laser/dilation to open me up in March they were only able to open me 2mm, so it shows a comparison to 1cm. Also the picture with all the stuff on the bed is everything that has to be taken with me anywhere in the hospital I go since I have a trach. So if I have to go to X-ray all of it goes with. It all had to go with me just down to surgery for the 2nd time because just in case my trach were to come out accidentally on the elevator or in the hall they are prepared:) So for the 4th I will not be doing anything as I can’t get sick before surgery so they cancel it. I love hearing from people either texting or on messenger as I just sit at home most days so feel free! I go for walks but that is usually it. Love to all!!!
